CI updates

Ever since we issued 2.49, external forces broke our CI jobs in various ways, and we had to adjust our code to work them around. Backmerge them from the 'master' front to make it easier to test real changes to the maintenance track. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
